Speeding Up MoneyWell

When you have several years of transactions, MoneyWell can slow down a bit because it's trying to refresh the graph, and balances for accounts and buckets in real time. Here are some tips to speeding up MoneyWell:

  • Limit History: You can limit the amount of transaction history by using the View > Limit Past Transaction Period setting. Keeping it to 24 months or less can really improve performance.

  • Hide Graph: You can hide the graph if you are doing a lot of data entry and need more speed. Simply double-click on the divider bar separating the graph from the money flows and transactions and it will collapse. To view it again, double-click again on the divider that appears just above the view selector at the bottom of the main window.

  • New Document: MoneyWell allows you to create multiple documents and you may want to start fresh with a new document, while keeping the older one for historic lookup. Simply use the File > New Document command to create a new document. You can even use the File > Export command to export a small amount of history from your old document and import it into the new one. Just select a range of transactions before exporting and use the filter option.

We are always working to improve performance, but you'll always see more speed if MoneyWell has less history to process.
