1) Create a Manual Investment Account. It's my Personal Property account, since there are no Asset accounts in MoneyWell. 2) Make the Starting Balance transaction $9000 (I don't think the amount matters) 3) Split the transaction 4) Split it any way you like, but I did $8k (Automobile) and $1k (Computer). 5) Look at the Transactions window. Each split item is on a separate line, but all of the $9k Starting Balance is allocated to the first item of the split, and the other items show their amounts as empty. Moneywell should show the amounts of each split item separately on their own line, so that $8k would show on the Automobile line and $1k on the Computer line.

This isn't a bug. You might have the View > Show Split Transaction Totals option active. By default, this is off so you can see exactly how much each transaction affects each bucket.

When you enter the Reconcile view, MoneyWell automatically shows the total for a split transaction and hides the split children so you can match up transactions to your statement.

This is very confusing then. The command menu shows Command-/ as "Show Split Transaction Totals". Normally, a menu item shows what selecting it will do, not what the current state is. If the menu says "Show Split", I would expect that hitting Command-/ turns on "Show Split", not turns off "Show Split". Yours is the first app I've seen where its context-sensitive menu items effectively do the opposite of what is indicated in the menu.

You may just be confused by what it means to show the split totals. This command does what it says, it "shows" the total for the split transaction if you select it. In MoneyWell, the transactions normally show their individual amounts (the ones shown on the split breakout at the bottom of the split parent transaction). If you don't want to see the split amount for the parent, you can choose this option to show the total for the whole split transaction instead.

    I promise, it isn't backwards.
