Please make # field alpha numeric
It would be more powerful to add the ability to sort by ATM charge, Bank charge, check #, etc. This is one of the few things I miss from Quicken.
OTOH - LOVE the ability to reconcile cash transactions in MoneyWell - something that can't be done in Quicken (at least as I can remember).
FWIW - I'm using the program on almost a daily basis - the ease of use makes it so comfortable. I would sometimes avoid Quicken for weeks or months. However I'm not using MoneyWell to track investments yet, which might be an issue, or an issue for others.

The Check Ref. field will probably stay as numeric and the transaction types will not expand to the unlimited types like Quicken. I apologize if these decisions cause problems but the philosophy behind MoneyWell is to simplify cash flow management.
Future versions will greatly expand the ability to track investments and stocks.

Not to quibble (well, maybe a little), but I would think that not being able to differentiate at a glance between an atm transaction, a cash withdrawal and a bank charge, and being able to sort them, goes against simplifying cash flow management.
Kevin, if at this point in the app's code, you're unable to make the # field alphanumeric, could there at least be an optional user definable AND sortable alphanumeric field that could be used however one needs - even if it's not sortable?
I truly don't think this is a minor request.

There are always design decisions that leave out features for some people and I really don't want to complicate MoneyWell with a field for a more detailed type of transaction. I kept the type simple and static to clean up problems I saw in Quicken.
If you don't mind me asking, how do you use this sorting of transaction types? What does it do for you in your financial management process?

"how do you use this sorting of transaction types? What does it do for you in your financial management process?"
Perhaps it's just being comfortable with a tool I've used and taken for granted from Quicken. Still, having this option (for me) allows me to delineate and quickly search between a bank transaction (BANK), an debit charge (ATM), a cash withdrawal (WITH) or a deposit (DEP) . Not having it means more hunting and pecking whenever I need to find a certain type of transaction, and I don't have an exact description.

Thanks for the feedback. The transaction search is pretty powerful and will be enhanced in future releases. Hopefully, this will be enough because I don't feel comfortable adding user-defined transaction types to MoneyWell. I apologize if this causes you any problems.

No need to apologize Kevin. Thus far the benefits of MoneyWell far outweighs those conventions that I'm missing. To clarify before you close this thread - it's not so much that I'm suggesting user definable fields, as it's simply making the "#" field alpha/numeric to allow a little more flexibility in sorting and searching.
Again, I understand if the code base prevents this, thus the user definable suggestion.

The code base doesn't prevent it but I still like keeping the check number numeric only. I have my reasons for some of the restrictions in MoneyWell. Thanks for understanding.
